Our language trip to York

From 7.6 to 14.6, 5B and 5C had a really fun time visiting York and Yorkshire. Accompanied by our two teachers, Ms. Jantschy and Ms. Hauer, we visited many beautiful sights of this historical city.
On our first day, we made a stop at Goathland, a train station that starred as Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films. We took some photos and then continued our ride to Whitby, where we tasted the local fish and chips and walked around the town. As it started raining, we went to the coastal city of Scarborough, which had a pleasing beach view and plenty of souvenir shops.

Throughout our trip, we had the opportunity to study English at the language school “York Tutors” in the mornings, while exploring the great city of York in the afternoon.
On the first day, we enjoyed the nature at the lovely Museum Gardens and walked the ancient Roman walls surrounding the city centre. On Tuesday we went for the Ghost Walk, on which we heard the legends this haunted city has to offer. Another thing we are going to remember with a smile is the Selfie Challenge, which we all enjoyed while being able to talk to the locals. Afterwards, we visited the York Minster, a beautiful church with such a peaceful atmosphere and great history. We also visited the York Dungeons, where actors brought historic criminals to life through frightening and theatrical performances — it gave us chills, but we found it very entertaining. Our teachers gave us the chance to eat our dinner with them in an English pub, which we found very fun. On our last day, we completed a quiz at the Railway Museum and bought many souvenirs for our families!

Finally, we had to ride the bus home for the last time, pack our bags, and say our goodbyes to our host families. This trip was a great way to learn English while also getting a peek at English culture on a daily basis. We are all happy to be home, but also really thankful to have had this experience!
